Nylon thread and polyester thread
In a time where I find myself redefining my practice in an attempt to be more in tune with the challenges of the planet, it has been hard to justify the use of the nylon thread that has been in my possession for 15 years. Nylon contains both oil and micro plastics and is incredibly strong, which makes it perfect for ropes for, amongst other things, boats. The sea, which feels like an untamable wild beast, has been filled with so much plastic, visible and invisible. Islands of plastic and micro plastics that enter our own bodies via the fish we eat. This circular movement from a body of water to our own body of water was something I wanted to express, whilst also acknowledging the dilemma and guilt contained in the use of this material.
